That may be true, although I never heard of a "fit of guffaws." With my short term memory problems it's too long ago now to remember whether I started off by guffawing, but I definitely ended up giggling as the humour of the comment hit me repeatedly but with diminished effect. I almost certainly had a BELLY laugh or two in there too. And a snork. I think us men are much more versatile than you give us credit for.
